Sports are here!

There have been a growing number of sporting events in recent years. We are in the era of the democratization of sport and so much the better! For example, more and more people know someone who has completed a marathon, a sure sign that the achievement has become more accessible. It’s not only the sporting elite that take part in the competitions but everyday people as well!

In addition to the increasing number of events, they are also breaking participation records. For example, the Relais du lac Memphremagog had to limit the number of teams to 200 for the 2013 edition. Further proof of their popularity: for the first edition of the Magog Marathon in 2012, more than 2400 runners answered the call. At the beginning they had expected about 500 people!

In fact, the Memphremagog region is expecting to host more than 25 events within its territory: running races, mountain biking, soccer, downhill skiing, hockey, and much more! It is estimated that there will be more than 18 000 athletes taking part in a major sporting event in the region. That’s not counting all the athletes who will be coming here in August as part of the Canada Games.

As well as athletes, sporting events attract trainers, families, and supporters. In the region, the pool of visitors generated by sporting events is estimated at more than 40 000 people, once again not counting the Canada Games.

Sport organizers are convinced they have the best to offer in terms of event quality, but they also believe in the beauty of their region and hope you discover it too. Working together, tourism partners want to encourage participants to visit the area and take advantage of specially-designed packages.

This is why we have launched a new tool: a sports newsletter. Via this publication that will appear six times a year, we want to let you know about the attractions the beautiful Memphremagog region has to offer. You will find articles on places to visit, accommodations, where to eat, coming events and much more. Through the eyes of an athlete, you will find an array of information that may well interest you.

Sportingly yours,

The Tourism Memphremagog team
